Index
This book was compiled chiefly from the Burmese documents by Father Sangermano and translated from his manuscript by William Tandy, D.D. The present volume has a note and a preface by John Jardine. The present publishers are: Susil Gupta, 7A High Street, Wanstead, London E11; Calderia 45, Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The First edition appeared in Rome in 1833, the Second edition in Rangoon in 1885, the Third in London in 1893, the Fourth in Rangoon in 1924 and finally the Fifth in 1966.
UKT: A copy of the book came into my hands in late 1972 in Myanmar.
Today, some thirty years later, I
remember that the book had come into my hands for just a few days. Not having
photocopying or computer-scanning in those days I had to resort to copying
portions of the book in my own long hand. I used regular ink to copy the
material in the book, and an ordinary lead pencil to write my own notes. However, due to an unfortunate circumstance, my
transcripts became wet and some portions were no longer easy to read. Since
there seems to be no way to prevent such accidents in the future, I decided to
digitised my work and to keep multiple copies on different computers and on
compact discs. I started on my task in 1998 (on 980615), but before I could
make much headway I had to stop.
In 2001, White Orchid Press
of Thailand began publishing the reprints of the book which I duly bought.
This html version has been copied from my own handwritten
transcripts. Portions that I had omitted in 1973 had been filled
in by my assistant Daw Papa in 2004.
