cāga -- [from cajati , to give up. Vedic tyaj . Cp. Sk. tyāga ]
(a) abandoning, giving up, renunciation. More freq. as
(b) (n.) liberality, generosity, munificence; (adj.) generous, munificent
• sīla-sampanno saddho pu-ri-sa-pugga-lo sabbe maccha-ri-no lo-ke cā-ge-na a-ti-ro-ca-ti --
he who is virtuous and religious excels all stingy people in generosity .
• mutta-cāga -- liberal, munificent
• cāga-paribbhāvita citta -- a heart bent on giving. In this sense cāga forms one of the five noble treasures of a man (cp. the Catholic treasure of grace), viz. saddhā (faith), sīla (virtue), suta (right knowledge), caga (liberality), paññā (wisdom).
