4. wakefulness (UKT: avoiding over-sleeping, lethargy, slothfulness (1 attribute)
5. living in conformity with moral laws (7 attributes)

caraṇa -- (nt.) 1. walking about, grazing, feeding. 2. the foot.
3. acting, behaviour, good conduct, freq. in combn. with vijjā.

caraṇaṁ -- the foot; a fixed observance or practice; good conduct चरण़् (UKT: check Devanagari spelling with peers.) The 15 caraṇas or good practices: 1. a moral life, 2. guarding the senses, 3. moderation in eating, 4. watchfulness, 5. faith, 6. shame, 7. fear of sin, 8. learning, 9. energy, 10. recollection, 11. wisdom and 12-15. the four jhānas.

-- conduct, behavior, state of, life of. In some texts a group of three cariyās, in some other texts groups of 4 and 8 are given. Very freq. in dhamma-cariya and brahma-cariya -- a good walk of life, proper conduct, chastity.
eka-cariya -- living alone; unchā-cariya -- begging; bhikkhā-cariya -- a life of begging; nagga-cariyā -- nakedness.Childers p100

kāṭa-cariyā -- deceitful conduct; nagga-cariyā -- going naked; dina-cariyā -- daily observance.

cariyaṁ bodhisattānaṁ dassento -- exemplifying in his own person the conduct of the Bodhisatta .
