Literal meanings:
mahājana-kāya -- a collection of people, a crowd
bala-kāya -- a great crowd
hatthi-kāya -- a herd of elephants
ratha-kāya -- a group of carriages
patti-kāya -- a company of soldiers
Applied meanings: kāya under the physical aspect is an aggregate of a multiplicity of elements which finally can be reduced to the four "great" elements, viz. earth, water, fire and air.
