1. name of one of the five buddhas of this present world bhadda kappa![]()
{Badda kam~Ba} (check Myanmar spelling), four of whom had already appeared.
2. name of a theravada![]()
{hté-ra.wa-da.} monk or "Elder" under whose auspices the First Buddhist Council was held. (Believed to be held at Rajagaha four years after the death of Gautama Buddha: exact date not certain, and are given as 479 BC by one source and 486 by another.)

• Buddha Kassapa is the fourth of the five buddhas who are believed to appear in the present world known as bhadda kappa. He is not a historical buddha, the only historical one being Buddha Gautama. The fifth, Buddha Mettaya, is yet to come.
• In Myanmar, there is a place known as Alaungdaw Kathapa, where there is supposed to be a body of an Elder known as Ashin Mahā Kaththapa![]()

. Whether that body is that of the Elder of the First Buddhist Council or not is not certain. That place, in the jungles of north-western Myanmar, has now been now been designated a conservation area: Alaungdaw Kathapa National Park.
