UKT: Since some of the hallucinations produced on eating the leaves or inhaling the smoke of the burning leaves, are frightening, the spelling ought to be {chauk} (from {chauk-cha:} to be frightened) rather than {hkrauk} (meaning: to dry). Unfortunately, both words are pronounced by the majority of Burmese-speakers as {chauk}.

• Dried flowering tops of pistillate plants. Used as Cerebral stimulant, analgesic, narcotic, delirifacient. Sedative in migraine, neuralgia, hysteria, cramps of summer diarrhoea, spasmodic cough and asthma -- UHM

Constituents:

• 1. Cannabin or Cannabinone. 2. Cannabinol, C₂₁H₂₆O₂, a toxic phenolic substance. 3. Alkaloid - Choline (7) -- UHM
