130425: The sun is about to set on the language of my great grandmother Daw MèMa
who hailed from the village of Mayan -- the potter's village on the outskirt of
Kungyangon town: the town where I was born many many years later. The ancient
city of Dala, now covered by the jungles called Dala Tawgyidan, stretches from
Twanté town to Kungyangon town. The area must have spoken the Peguan dialect of
Mon-Myan, which has now gone out of extinction. What these lessons has given is
the Mataban dialect.
This Mataban dialect is also slowly dying, but at least it should survive in academic circles. I hope what I am doing now would be one of the foundation stones for a structure to preserve the language of my forefathers.
