Note on Burmese-Myanmar r1c2 conjunct character
{hkya.} -- a derivative of
{hka.}
by UKT: (To see some characters in this paragraph you need a Unicode font such as Arial Unicode MS, the font I am using. e.g. see the equivalent of {hka.} in Davanargari ख U0916.)
Similar to the Asoka script, Myanmar script in which the Burmese spoken language is written, is a phonetic script. The basic akshara involved in the name{hkying-rwé:} is the character of row 1 column 2 (r1c2) in the akshara matrix (traditionally presented according to phonetic principles). This character is conjoined with r6c1 character,
{ya.} (Devanagari य U092F), to produce the conjunct
{hkya.} (Devanagari ख्य ).
ख ् य hka.+viram+ya. --> ख्य
This conjunct (conjoined character) in IPA (International phonetic alphabet) is /ʧ/ (Latin small letter "Tesh" diagraph) and its pronunciation is similar to ch in the English word <chin>.
Though, orthographically the nameis {hkying-rwé:}, in order to make Romabama more in sync with English transcription of the spoken Burmese, on some occasions, I have to adopt {ching-rwé:}. If you are linguistically inclined, you might be curious to see ng in the coda of the syllable {hkying}. ng stands for the missing letter in the English-Latin script. It is ŋ and is known as "Eng". (U014B - Latin small letter "Eng"). It's place is taken up by ng in English words such as <sing>. It is a velar-nasal consonant and is equivalent to the Burmese-Myanmar (r1c5)
{nga.} (Devanagari ङ U0919). It is present in {hkying:} as the killed-consonant
. If only "Eng" had been present in the English-Latin script, I could have spelled {hkying} as {hkyiŋ}.
